Stadiums Queensland engaged INTREC to deliver security upgrade works to the existing vetting areas at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. Suncorp Stadium provides Brisbane and south-east Queensland with a 52,500 plus seat capacity, state-of-the art, world-class stadium able to accommodate a range of uses including sporting events and concerts.

The project consisted of the construction of retractable gates for crowd control and security bag check stations for the vetting areas on the North Gate, South Gate and Gate C plazas, to be used during stadium events.
The gates were constructed with advertising LED light boxes atop pylons, which were programmed into the stadium’s Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) lighting system. This enabled the light boxes to be controlled from the existing Control Centre.

The project was delivered within a live, fully operational environment which meant exposure to the public and difficulty in mobilising and de-mobilising the site subject to stadium events. Works progressed during the height of COVID-19 restrictions which resulted in the delay of materials supplied from Melbourne.

Innovation was key to the success of the project. INTREC collaborated with our Signage contractor to design and propose the approved lightbox concept. We also collaborated with our Structural Steel contractor to design and propose a new drop bolt sleeve plug design which was approved by Stadiums Queensland.
The team successfully managed the relocation of proposed core holes for the light posts due to the location of existing structural steel beams,. INTREC provided expertise and a consultative approach to deliver an optimal design for the client, which ultimately achieved a successful project and strengthened relationship with Stadiums Queensland.
