The Queensland Department of Education and Training along with Honeywill Consulting engaged INTREC to construct a new two-story performing Arts Centre at Ipswich State High School,  which towers over 17m high and is built into a sloping site. This new centre includes has state of the art features including a large auditorium which is dividable into three areas by utilising 11m high operable wall systems. The Auditorium is complete with retractable seating, a dance area with sprung timber flooring, a large stage complete with back of house facilities such as costume/Dress Rooms, Prop and Equipment stores accessed via a loading dock.

The new facility also has a full stage machinery and Audio Visual package including and lighting booms, curtains and sound system all controlled via the bio box.

From the outset the INTREC project team built a great working relationship with the school which enabled us to deliver the project with minimal disruption to the operation of the school and minimal safety risks to students, staff and the general public.

We believe communication and safety is paramount, especially when working in live education environments. Our experienced site-based team have ensured all of the school’s guidelines are met with regards to communication, shutdowns and service disruptions. We have staged works and access requirements around peak operating and examination times and are in ongoing consultation with school staff.

The new building has been designed for minimal ongoing maintenance which meant that blockwork walls and concrete stairs and floors had to be finished to a high level of quality, as they would be the finished surface of the building. INTREC were able to achieve this through strict implementation of our accredited quality control procedures and through the skilled workmanship of our supply chain.

As part of our strong relationship with Ipswich SHS INTREC were able to provide Students from the on-site Trade Training Centre with work experience opportunities on site whilst still completing their schooling. Students have been performing duties in a number of areas including but not limited to general construction works such as general labouring and safety inspections, under supervision from our Site Manager.

INTREC are proud to be able to facilitate a safe and supervised learning experience for the trade students of Ipswich State High School, for which we have received continuous positive feedback from the head teacher, Building Services Manager and Principal.

This project is an investment into the school’s future and provides valuable experience to current students to start a fulfilling career path in construction.
