Newcastle University Sport (NUsport) is committed to fostering healthier communities by providing high-quality sports, health, and fitness facilities for Newcastle and the surrounding region. These facilities support the physical and mental wellbeing of students, staff, and stakeholders. As part of this commitment, Oval #3 Playing Field at the University of Newcastle’s Callaghan campus underwent a significant transformation to enhance its functionality and long-term usability.

The upgraded oval now features two all-weather playing surfaces with integrated sports lighting, catering to a variety of sports including hockey, tennis, netball, and futsal. The larger field incorporates a GEN 2 synthetic playing surface, while the smaller court features a hard acrylic finish. The existing rugby fields were also reoriented to an east–west configuration, including the installation of new goalposts and updated line marking layouts.

INTREC additionally completed the installation of six new floodlight poles and fittings, modifications to existing lighting towers, Wi-Fi and security upgrades, and associated concrete and landscaping works. The project scope also included the procurement and installation of multisport equipment and specialised line markings to accommodate multiple sporting codes.
