INTREC Management and RPS Group worked collaboratively in delivering the TAFE Ultimo Barbering and Tourism Project, which encompassed design and construction services to refurbish areas on Level 6 of Building W. This refurbishment provided a new barbering salon, travel and tourism centre, alongside additional spaces for TAFE Ultimo, with the aim to contribute to a learning environment reminiscent of a real barbering salon. As the building was heritage listed and there was existing asbestos vinyl present, project works required detailed demolition. This included retaining and protecting nominated columns, skirtings, windows and ceiling details for finishes. Notable features of the refurbishment included curved bulkheads, glass operable walls, extensive feature signage and joinery units included in the barbering section, resembling a Barbers salon for student classes.
This project was completed on time and within budget. This proved a real credit to the project team when faced with programming hurdles msuch as exam periods, timetabled classes and latent flooring conditions. To combat this, works had to be strictly organised over a day and night, shift, to avoid stand-stills and optimise trades on site.
