Frankston Hospital is the major provider of acute secondary and tertiary hospital services on the Mornington Peninsula.
On behalf of Peninsula Health, INTREC Victoria, Lyons Architects, Bonacci Group, Watermans, Umow Lai and Steve Watson and Partners collaborated to extend the emergency department and create a 12 Bed Short Stay Unit. The site was located within the confined undercroft of Frankston Hospital’s emergency operating theatres. Project works included monitored and unmonitored rooms, ensuites, a DDA bathroom, discharge areas and a new plant room. New nursecall, medical gas and security systems were also installed and integrated with the adjacent Emergency Department and Psychiatric Unit. Efficient Procurement, managing onsite workflow and providing fit-for-purpose alternatives were crucial to the success of this new ward, which was finished within particularly tight programme restrictions.
