Waratah Private Hospital, as one of the most technically advanced hospitals, is committed to driving excellence in the care and recovery of their patients. The Rehabilitation Gym and Hydrotherapy Pool was just the next step in their vision to become the healthcare provider of choice in Australia and New Zealand.
The gym involved the merging and transformation of two vacant tenancies on the upper ground floor into one large 350sqm gym. This is now an active environment for its users, helping to rehabilitate and keep patients motivated throughout their hospital care.
The second part of the project involved the construction of a Hydrotherapy Pool suspended from an existing slab, above a fully operational loading dock. The works on this project included an 11m x 5m penetration through a post tensioned slab, installation of over 20 tonnes of structural steel to the underside of the slab to transfer the loads, and three concrete pours including base, walls and the ramp of the new pool. All works were completed directly above the Hospitals’ loading dock and main comms room which were still in operation during the entire construction phase.
A major accomplishment for this project was to facilitate the works with no impact on the regular hospital operations. This was a challenge as all main fire, hydraulic and medical gas pipework and ductwork had to be diverted prior to project commencement and all live comms and fire cables were protected for the duration of the works.
