The project consisted of 2 components, the first being the upgrade and extension of an existing Community Centre with a bar, commercial kitchen, theatre, formal/informal dining areas and lounge.
The second being the stand alone construction of an enclosed outdoor swimming pool, alfresco dining and exercise facility. Works consisted of extensive structural modifications and additions to existing buildings. These were largely made up of suspended slabs, slab on ground, structural steel and new paths and paved areas.
All structures were built on sand and largely supported by a specialist designed screw pile system. The fitout component was predominantly based on a standard currently being rolled out across the majority Lend Lease retirement facilities. This consists of detailed joinery, feature tiling, bespoke carpets and feature lighting. The construction of the exercise and pool facility has been designed to complement the community centre and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Main challenges on site included working within sand and restricted access to site with local heritage conservation restraints. The site is an occupied place of residence with increased public congestion throughout the summer months. The program was largely determined by construction timelines and coordination of procurement and careful consideration of the day to day operations of the retirement village.
