The International Women’s Day 2022 theme #breakthebias is about challenging and calling out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements and collectively help to create an inclusive world. This International Women’s Day, INTREC has been reflecting on our amazing female staff who are doing their part to help #breakthebias surrounding women in the construction industry.
International Women’s Day is strongly embraced by the INTREC team and is embedded in our inclusive ethos, as we aim to empower women in a male-dominated industry. INTREC will continue to campaign for a world in which gender equality is indisputable. We are passionate about fostering diverse and welcoming spaces in our workplace where both men and women can thrive, equally, within the construction industry.
In 2020, the Australian Government specified the average percentage of full-time female employees in the Construction Industry to be 12.9%. Currently, 20% of INTREC full-time staff identify as female. Similarly, INTREC strongly encourages women to apply for senior positions within our company.
To celebrate International Women’s Day this year, we put together a video featuring female team members sharing their experience working in construction. The video was created to share with a school that we are currently delivering as part of the Cooler Classrooms Program. The students at this school will benefit from seeing young women in the construction and the absence of gender bias at INTREC.
Through promoting International Women’s Day, we hope to inspire young women to consider a future career in construction and help them understand that gender is not a roadblock within our industry. #BreakTheBias
