A Timeless Refresh for NSW Crown Solicitors

In late 2018, INTREC completed a high end 6-floor fit out for the NSW Crown Solicitor’s Head Office on Elizabeth Street, Sydney. The Crown Solicitor’s Office (CSO) occupies floors 4 to 9 of this iconic building. The CSO is a Public Service Executive Agency that provides legal services for thousands of matters per year. A large focus of the CSO is aiding the NSW State Government in legal cases, whilst still competing with law firms in the private sector for select, commercial legal projects.
INTREC recognise that minimal disruptions to the daily operations of the workplace is paramount, particularly in such a high stakes, time-sensitive work environment. In order to meet the needs of the client, INTREC conducted all demolition work overnight to reduce the sound produced during the working day. The fitout process was split into 3 stages and was conducted over a period of 7 months, allowing the daily operations of the workplace to continue. Those affected by each respective stage were accommodated on an alternate floor for the duration of that stage.
Each floor was stripped down to a shell and transformed into a highly functional, comfortable workspace. This open floor plan was designed to maximise communication as well as create safe spaces for employees to carry out confidential work and intensive research. Optimal storage was provided for necessary resources and new kitchens and dining areas were installed on each level. The design was created to complement the integrity and tradition of the building, employing a timeless, neutral colour palette with subtle splashes of colour.
INTREC conducted a full makeover of the interior of the 5 floors of the building. A component of the interior fitout work was the installation of a new fresh air riser to accommodate the new mechanical system for the floors.
All IT backbone cabling was upgraded to fibre and CAT 6a, running between the newly built main comms room and comms cupboards on each floor. INTREC was able to achieve the critical change over date for the comms without any hiccups. The high-end fitout works entailed new high-end flooring and ceiling finishes, as well as high end joinery, lighting and blinds.
Specific features such as heritage wooden doors, parquet flooring, ceiling cornices and roses were kept in the declared heritage areas as an ode to the iconic history of the building.
Being an old historic building, the infrastructure in place did not naturally lend itself to an operational building site – a challenge for the INTREC team. This placed limitations on the transportation of products to various floors, as the team were restricted by the small lift space and conducting the fit out in a live-work environment. INTREC took these challenges in stride and did everything possible to ensure no delays and minimal disruption.
To maintain synergy across the fitout process, every decision was made with a collaborative approach. The CSO representatives were extremely happy with the completed space and commended the INTREC team on their time management skills and approachability.

INTREC then transformed this space into a modernised and sleek office that accommodates the company’s needs.
A similar interior fit-out was conducted for the Yello Centre for ABN AMRO on George Street, Sydney. This design featured timber slatted ceilings, concrete-look wall panelling and high-end joinery. INTREC brought this office space to life with an industrial chic appeal. New mechanical and security systems were updated to suit the needs of this work environment.
