INTREC Management were recently awarded the Victorian ‘ALDI Project Refresh’ programme for 2020.
The implementation phase of ALDI’s strategy to refurbish the majority of its stores into the new ‘Fresh’ format began in 2017. Developed around ALDI’s primary objective to align all stores in the nation with the current design, the ‘ALDI Project Refresh’ programme is designed to standardise ALDI’s national brand presence.
ALDI currently operates over 10,000 retail outlets in 18 countries around the world, with over 500 stores along the Australian eastern seaboard earmarked for revitalisation and over 100 new stores in South Australia and Western Australia on the horizon.
Engaged as a Head Contractor, INTREC have partnered with ALDI to deliver refurbishment and construction projects in Victoria since 2017. Between 2017 and 2019, INTREC delivered interior refurbishment projects at 56 ALDI supermarkets around regional and metropolitan Victoria; from Portland, Traralgon, Ararat and Echuca through to Bairnsdale, Epson, Sale and Benalla.
Each project consists of a comprehensive refurbishment including but not limited to; demolition works, new flooring, ceiling, lighting and wall panelling, along with electrical, data, security, mechanical, refrigeration and hydraulics upgrades.
To ensure the Refresh is beneficial for both employees and customers, new joinery, workstations and new or refurbished registers are also installed. The main challenge for the project is the compressed programme and procurement lead times. Each store requires a defit and refit within eight to fifteen days, often imposing split shifts over a live 24-hour site.
With projects running at multiple stores concurrently each month, precise planning and safety are paramount. INTREC have a team of staff solely dedicated to the ALDI Project Refresh Programme. Their thorough understanding of ALDI requirements has been garnered through extensive experience working with the ALDI project team, and their knowledge guarantees efficient handovers and stakeholder satisfaction. This valuable team has continued to grow as the level of responsibility and workload for ALDI has increased.
This commitment to quality recently earnt the INTREC Victorian ALDI Refresh team a 2019 Victorian Institute of Building (AIB) Professional Excellence in Building (PEA) award for Interiors in July.
As the only Australian awards programme that recognises the professional excellence of individuals within the building and construction process, the AIB awards focuses on how it was built, not what was built.
This timely recognition of the INTREC Victorian ALDI team, coupled with the award of the Victorian ALDI Project Refresh programme for 2020, makes for a promising start to the Financial Year. As the INTREC team begins to advance on ALDI Refresh projects in New South Wales and Queensland, the company is committed to the cultivation and continuation of its relationship with ALDI, project architects and consultants.
